Guild Wars News: Removing Heroes from GvG/HA and New Live Test Crew

Submitted on June 19, 2009 by Inde

Regina Buenaobra has made 2 very important announcements you'll want to check out and discuss:
  • Removing Heroes from GvG and HA. This is something that many players have been asking for for a long time. We still want people to be able to participate in the action even if they can’t field a full team, so we will replace Heroes with a bunch of new Henchmen. We are currently working on the details, so we can’t give you a concrete timeline, but we do know that we want you to be involved. We’re looking for suggestions on the skills you want to see for those Henchmen, so start thinking about those skill bars!
  • Introducing a Guild Wars Live Test Krewe to help test upcoming updates and skill changes. We’re opening up the testing process to players, and if you are selected you will be able to access our test server and directly interact with our developers! We’ll put up an application form on our website once we finalize all the details. Two things in advance: due to legal reasons, you need to be at least 18 if you want to apply, and you need to speak and write English fluentl
See the announcement here - So What Are We Doing at the Moment?

The Ascalon Royal Family Masquerade Ball 09 - May 31st

Submitted on May 28, 2009 by Inde

The Ascalon Royal Family Masquerade Ball is a long forgotten formal event, engraved into history years before the searing. The Kingdom of Ascalon was once prosperous, led by King Adelbern and the Royal Family. During such times the ball was the yearly celebration to celebrate the wealth and beauty that was Ascalon. But alas, The Searing as it has come to be known shattered the hearts of men. The ball had been forgotten for many years. Lord Sojar, in his travels, stumbled upon an old text depicting a dance festival of epic proportions in the realm of Ascalon since past. Intrigued, he did further research. After painstaking tasks, Lord Sojar begged the wealthiest of the lords of Ascalon and surrounding kingdom of Kryta to donate what they saw fit to bring back this beautiful festival. With the return of the Masquerade Ball, a curious wind blew about the place on that night two years ago, many didn’t realize an envoy had arrived. The second year after the ball, people looked for the wandering Lord Sojar, little did they know he had fallen ill and retired to his estate. This time the winds blew stronger as citizens of Ascalon despaired that the ball would not commence. And just when the Festival seemed lost a silk hat landed in the middle of the ball room floor...

Be sure to drop by and check it out.  You can find it here:    Tech Insight

"AMD's Gambit, will it work?

Consider for a moment where AMD was 4 years ago. Consider where they are now. Now, look at why they were there 4 years ago, and what fundamentally brought them there. They developed a 64 bit processor with an amazing register system capable of 32+32 operation. Intel stumbled and eventually fell to AMD, losing huge tracts of market share to the Athlon64."

Drop over to the Technician's Corner every Saturday for a new edition of "Tech Insight", and give your opinion on the changing landscape of technology.

Guild Wars 4th Anniversary Interview

Submitted on April 24, 2009 by Inde

Special thanks to LoneSamurai for pointing out that IGN has up an interview with Mike O'Brien for the Guild Wars 4th year anniversary celebration you'll want to read:

IGNPC: Can we expect Guild Wars 2 news this year? Will the game ship in 2009 or 2010?

Mike O'Brien: The Guild Wars 2 team is twice the size of the original Guild Wars team, so you can imagine the level of art, content, and production values we're putting into the game. The game is already beautiful, and is getting more so every day. In addition to the normal playtesting of everyday development, the entire team logs on every Wednesday to simply play the game together, and we always have a lot of fun.

Guild Wars is celebrating it's 4th year!  Check out some of these things ArenaNet has planned.  The festivities begin on Thursday, April 23 after the live update and run until noon on Wednesday, April 29.

Games - You're in luck! Whether you're feeling "Lucky" (pun intended) or simply looking for some fun, the citizens of Shing Jea Monastery have once again reopened the Boardwalk. Found only in their village, the Shing Jea Boardwalk's games of chance will satisfy the most robust adventurers, and the more fortune-favored.

If you're after the competitive thrill, you can battle it out in the Dragon Arena or enter a Rollerbeetle Race.

Presents - In true birthday fashion, we'll once again have plenty of presents for you! Starting at 12:01 AM Pacific on Tuesday, April 28, characters turning four will find a gift in their inventories that has a new miniature from this year's birthday series.

We are aware that some of you will not be happy to hear this, but let us give you the reason for this, so you might understand our decision.

Guild Wars Policy Update

Submitted on April 2, 2009 by Inde

Regina Buenaobra, Community Manager, dropped by our Riverside Inn forum to let us know that Guild Wars has an updated Policy that you'll want to be aware of.

The first one is the Naming Policy. We currently have rules in our User Agreement that give you brief guidelines on what types of names are allowed, however, many felt that these guidelines were not clear enough. We have published a Naming Policy that expands on the guidelines in the User Agreement with a bit more detail and clarification on what is expected when players name their characters or guilds.

Secondly, the Rules of Conduct and Conduct Breaches and Outcomes have been updated to clarify PvP conduct issues, specifically the issue of match manipulation and other types of PvP abuse, such as leeching. Earlier this year in our update to the Universal Tournament Rules, we stated that match manipulation was against the rules. After continuing confusion as to whether it was technically against the rules to engage in match manipulation outside of tournament play, we have updated the Rules of Conduct and Conduct Breaches and Outcomes to reflect our position that match manipulation and abuse is against the rules and the spirit of the game in all forms of PvP play.
